Paruna is located 34km south of Loxton and 70km north of Pinnaroo South Australia on the Browns Well Highway.
The major agricultural activities in the area are cereal crops and sheep, pig, goat and cattle production. There are also potato and olive plantations.
Regular periods of drought have decimated the area with many families being forced to leave or seek alternative sources of income elsewhere.
Paruna School openned 1925 and in 1965 it closed. In 1966 the school became the district school for the area and was renamed Brown's Well Area School. After falling student enrolments the school closed in 2007. Soon after the local store and tavern then ceased to operate.
Paruna provides many recreational facilities including a caravan and camping
